• Plum Tarts

These plum tarts are REALLY NICE  but DEAD EASY because they’re made with bread instead of pastry.

    Ingredients
2 Slices of wholemeal bread (don’t worry, it won’t taste wholemeal by the time we’ve finished)
    4 Lovely Plums
Brown sugar (brown sugar is best).
    Butter
    Equipment
    An oven dish
    A knife & chopping board.
    What to do

    1. Chop the crusts off the bread.

    2. Smear butter all over the oven dish. This will stop the crusts from sticking.

    3. Butter the bread on one side – put loads on, right up to the edges.  Then cut both slices of bread into 4 squares.

    4. Cut the plums in half, take out the stone, and then press each half onto a square of bread, skin side of the plum pushed into the butter.

    5. Dab another little blob of butter into each plum.   Put it inside the hole left by the stone.  Then sprinkle on the sugar – again, be generous.

    6.  Now they need to go on the dish and into a hot oven – 180 centigrade/Gas mark 4 for about 25 – 30 minutes.  They are ready when they smell delicious, and the juices of the plums and the sugar have melted together to make a sticky caramel.  Tasty!

You can serve your plum tarts with a blob of custard, cream or ice cream.  Chocolate works too, it melts on the hot plums.  Very nice.
