Chocolate Brownies
Chocolate brownies are lovely and SO EASY to make. This recipe is especially easy, because all the mixing is done in one pan.
But you do need the right equipment. Most supermarkets sell brownie tins – they are shallow and about 20cm square. You can get one for about £3. This recipe is for a tin that size.
Ingredients
125grams of dark chocolate
Dark chocolate has a higher % if cocoa solids. Usually the higher the % the higher the price! To make really chocolatey brownies, you need 50% cocoa solids, or more.125 grams of butter
2 large eggs beaten in a bowl
200g of caster sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
75 grams of plain flourEquipment you
A brownie tin
Greaseproof paper to line the tin- if you don’t have any you can grease the tin with butter instead
A medium sized panHow to make Chocolate Brownies
1. Put the oven onto 180C/Gas Mark 4. Line the tin, or grease it with butter. The paper will make it easier to get the chocolate brownies out at the end.
2.Put the butter in the pan and melt it slowly. As its melting, break the chocolate into pieces and put in the pan too, so they melt together. Don’t have the heat too high or the chocolate will go all grainy.
3. When the lumps have nearly melted away, turn off the heat and stir the buttery, chocolatey mixture until it’s smooth.
4. Stir in the caster sugar, and then the eggs and the vanilla essence.
5. Finally poor in the flour, and give it all a good stir.
6. Tip the chocolatey brownie mixture into the tin and smooth it over.
7. Now to cook it! Put it in the oven – use oven gloves – and bake it for 20 minutes.
8. The hardest part about making brownies is knowing when they’re done! Check that the middle of the cake is quire firm. But don’t leave them in too long, or else they will go dry. You want them to be cooked, but still squidgy!
9. Leave your fresh chocolate brownies to cool for at least 10 minutes.

10. Cut them into squares and carefully take them out of the tin. The first one can be tricky. If it breaks, eat it quick.Well done, you’ve made your own chocolate brownies – you’re prize is on your plate!
